写信去问了，得到回复如下：
It looks like the Sarcocaulon are all field collected, which is why they are so low and fat. If I grew mine slower and in more light they would be fatter and lower but I don't know if they would look like wild plants.

Sarcocaulon multifidum only has gray stems when grown in cultivation and they are never as low and fat as wild plants.
